Trees For Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand

Milk Cartons wanted.

Trees for Canterbury continue to use recycled 1L milk cartons.  The cartons (in Christchurch) can be put out in your recycling bin.  In other areas it is recommended that you contact your local council to see if they are accepted.

We are now accepting all 300ml and 600ml cartons also.  Although these are not used at trees for Canterbury we can assure you that they are not going to the landfill.  We are baling these up and sending them to Dunedin where they are shipped overseas for hydrapulping.  it is such a shame that this process is not undertaken in New Zealand.

All 1L cartons are used in the nursery to grow native seedlings.  Many of the plants are then planted back into the community through giveaways or community based plantings.

We ask that everyone rinses the cartons before putting them in the bin.  There are volunteers who have to handle them when they reach the nursery and there is nothing worse than finding a carton full of old smelly milk.

Please do not crush the carton as they are needed whole and re-usable.  You can also drop cartons off in Christchurch at any of the recycling areas at the Transfer Stations or at our nursery.
